(a) Harvest of fur seal shall not be accomplished in a wasteful manner.

(b) Any hunting of fur seals is prohibited; however, the prohibition in this subsection is not intended to prohibit or regulate actions that occur as part of a lawful harvest allowed by this chapter (refer to ATC 7.10.10(c)).

(c) The intentional harvest of female fur seal is prohibited.

(1) If the unintentional harvest of five females has occurred the harvest will stop for a period of two days so that the harvest workers can discuss the reasons why females were harvested and correct problems contributing to the harvest of females.

(2) If the unintentional harvest of eight females has occurred, the harvest may be stopped for that season.

(d) Intentionally and unnecessarily aggravating or throwing items at any fur seal during any part of the harvest is prohibited.

(e) Intentionally conducting the harvest of fur seals in a manner that creates heat-stressed animals is prohibited.

(f) Harvesting fur seals merely for parts (such as flippers, livers, hearts, etc.) is prohibited.

(g) The use of alcohol or drugs or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during any part of the harvest is prohibited.

(h) Smoking, snuffing, ashing, spitting, or otherwise using or disposing of tobacco products on the harvest field is prohibited.

(i) Disposing of garbage in the “gut pile” or at the carcass dumpsite is prohibited.

(j) Throwing away any edible/usable part of a seal is prohibited.

(k) Any person that has old or spoiled meat to dispose of is required to notify an enforcement officer prior to disposing of it. The enforcement officer will document any and all disposal events. [Res. 2009-39; 2008 Code § 7.2.12]
